Pins and needles, altered sensation or burning that may involve the neck, shoulder, arm, wrist or hand.
YEONSEICHIROPRACTIC & PILATESNerve symptom assessment · Sydney
Pins and needles, burning pain, altered sensation or weakness can have many causes. Dr Kevin Park assesses the spine, relevant joints and nervous system, explains the findings and recommends care or referral based on your presentation.

Understanding your symptoms
Tingling, numbness, burning, shooting pain or weakness may relate to irritation or injury affecting a nerve, the neck or lower back, a peripheral nerve in an arm or leg, or a medical condition. The location and pattern of symptoms, strength, reflexes, sensation and movement help determine the most appropriate next step. Some presentations are suitable for conservative care, while others need medical review, tests or imaging.
Reasons people book
These descriptions do not identify the cause by themselves. A history and examination are used to decide whether chiropractic care is appropriate.
Pins and needles, altered sensation or burning that may involve the neck, shoulder, arm, wrist or hand.
Numbness, burning or altered sensation in the buttock, leg or foot, with or without lower-back pain.
Shooting or spreading pain from the neck into an arm, or from the lower back into a leg.
Symptoms triggered by desk work, sleep position, prolonged sitting, bending or repeated movement.
A feeling of weakness, reduced grip, dropping objects or reduced confidence using an arm or leg.
Intermittent symptoms that affect sleep, work, walking, exercise or everyday function.
Your initial appointment
Treatment is included in every initial consultation after the assessment, when clinically appropriate and with your consent.
We discuss the symptom pattern, timing, aggravating positions, medical history, medicines, previous injuries and how the symptoms affect daily life.
The examination may include movement, strength, reflexes, sensation, nerve-tension tests and assessment of the neck, back or relevant limb joints.
Dr Kevin explains the findings, what may be contributing and whether conservative care, medical review, imaging or another referral is the safer next step.
Treatment is included at the initial consultation after assessment. When appropriate, it may include mobilisation, manipulation, soft tissue therapy and guided exercise, always with your consent.
Individualised care
Management may include gentle spinal or joint mobilisation, manipulation when appropriate, soft tissue therapy, activity advice and progressive rehabilitation. If the presentation suggests a medical cause, significant nerve compromise or a condition outside chiropractic scope, Dr Kevin will recommend timely referral.
Numbness and tingling have many possible causes. Chiropractic care is not a substitute for urgent or specialist medical assessment when warning signs or significant neurological changes are present.

Your chiropractor
Dr Kevin Park assesses nerve-related symptoms alongside spinal and musculoskeletal findings, using clear explanations, consent-based care and referral when required.

Yes. A chiropractor can assess the symptom pattern, movement and relevant neurological findings. The assessment also helps identify when medical review, tests or referral are more appropriate.
No. Tingling and numbness can have many causes, including temporary pressure on a nerve, spinal or peripheral nerve irritation and medical conditions. The symptom alone cannot confirm the cause.
Sometimes. Arm or hand symptoms may be influenced by the neck, but they can also come from nerves elsewhere in the arm or from other medical causes. The assessment considers these possibilities.
Sciatica can include pain, numbness or weakness that travels from the lower back or buttock into a leg. Other conditions can cause similar symptoms, so an examination is important.
Not everyone needs imaging. Dr Kevin considers your history and examination and will explain if medical review or imaging may help change management.
