Understanding your symptoms

Neck pain can affect more than turning your head.

Neck pain may involve stiffness, reduced movement, upper-back or shoulder tension and sometimes headaches. These symptoms can arise for different reasons. Assessment considers your history, symptom pattern, movement and relevant neurological or physical findings before care is recommended.

Reasons people book

Common neck and headache concerns we assess.

Headaches have many possible causes. We assess whether a musculoskeletal contribution may be relevant and refer when appropriate.

01

Neck pain & stiffness

Pain or restricted movement affecting work, sleep, driving, exercise or daily activities.

02

Desk-related strain

Neck, upper-back or shoulder symptoms associated with sustained computer and desk work.

03

Headache presentations

Headaches where the neck and surrounding musculoskeletal tissues may be contributing factors.

04

Shoulder & upper-back tension

Symptoms involving the neck, shoulder girdle, upper back or movement between these regions.

05

Base-of-skull & upper-neck pain

Pain or pressure around the upper neck or base of the skull, including symptoms that may travel towards the back of the head.

06

Recurring flare-ups

Assessment of repeated episodes and practical strategies for movement, workload and self-management.

Symptoms people search for

When neck pain travels into the head or makes turning difficult.

These symptom patterns can have different causes. The purpose of an assessment is to understand the presentation, screen for warning signs and decide whether chiropractic care or medical review is appropriate.

Pain radiating into the head

Upper-neck discomfort may sometimes be felt around the back or side of the head. Headaches also have many other possible causes, so appropriate screening remains important.

Pain at the base of the skull

Tenderness, stiffness or aching where the upper neck meets the skull may occur with restricted movement, muscle sensitivity or headache symptoms.

Neck pain when turning

Pain or stiffness when checking traffic, working, exercising or looking over a shoulder can be assessed alongside movement and neurological findings.

Text neck and computer work

Long periods using a phone or computer may be associated with neck, upper-back and shoulder symptoms. Movement, breaks, workload and workstation habits may all be considered.

Your initial appointment

Assessment, explanation and treatment in one visit.

Treatment is included in every initial consultation after the assessment, when clinically appropriate and with your consent.

01

History

Discuss your symptoms, headache pattern, activities, health history and goals.

02

Assessment

Relevant neck, upper-back, shoulder and neurological findings are examined.

03

Explanation

Findings, treatment choices and any need for medical review or referral are explained.

04

Treatment

Appropriate treatment begins, followed by practical advice about the next steps.

Individualised care

Treatment choices that reflect your assessment and preferences.

Care may include spinal manipulation or mobilisation, soft-tissue therapy, movement advice and progressive rehabilitation or exercise. Cervical manipulation is not automatically required; options, expected benefits, risks and alternatives are discussed before treatment.

No particular outcome can be guaranteed. Headaches that do not appear musculoskeletal—or that include concerning features—require appropriate medical assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Helpful information about neck pain and headaches.

Where can I have neck pain assessed in Strathfield?+

Yeonsei Chiropractic Clinic provides neck pain assessment and individualised care in Suite 204 on Level 2 of Strathfield Plaza, about two minutes from Strathfield Station.

Can neck pain travel into the head or base of the skull?+

Neck symptoms can sometimes be felt around the upper neck or base of the skull and may occur with some headache presentations. Because headaches and head pain have many possible causes, screening and appropriate referral are important.

Why does my neck hurt when I turn my head?+

Pain when turning can occur for different reasons, including joint or muscle irritation, an injury or another condition. Assessment considers how the symptoms began, movement, neurological findings and any features that may require medical review.

Can neck problems contribute to headaches?+

Neck pain can occur with headaches, and some headache presentations may have a musculoskeletal contribution from the neck or surrounding tissues. Headaches also have many non-musculoskeletal causes, so assessment and appropriate screening are important.

Can Dr Kevin Park assess neck pain and headaches?+

Yes. Dr Kevin Park assesses neck pain, restricted movement, upper-back or shoulder tension and headaches where a musculoskeletal contribution may be relevant. If the presentation suggests another cause or requires medical review, referral will be recommended.

Can prolonged desk work or text neck contribute to neck pain?+

Long periods at a computer can be associated with neck, upper-back and shoulder symptoms, but posture is only one possible factor. Assessment may consider movement, workload, breaks, workstation habits, exercise and other clinical findings.

What treatment may be used for neck pain?+

Depending on the assessment findings and your preferences, care may include spinal manipulation or mobilisation, soft-tissue therapy, movement advice and rehabilitation or exercise. Techniques are selected for the individual and provided with consent.

Is neck manipulation always required?+

No. Treatment choices are discussed with you and may include mobilisation, soft-tissue techniques or exercise instead. Your preferences, health history, assessment findings and any precautions are considered before treatment.

Do I need an X-ray or scan before booking?+

Not routinely. Existing imaging can be reviewed, while new imaging or medical referral is considered when the history or examination indicates it may be appropriate or may change management.

Will treatment be provided at the initial consultation?+

Yes. Every initial consultation includes treatment after the history and physical assessment, provided it is clinically appropriate and you consent. The findings and next steps are also explained during the appointment.

How much is an initial appointment?+

The initial chiropractic consultation and treatment is 30 minutes and costs $101.50. Eligible private health insurance claims can be processed through HICAPS, and Medicare rebates may apply with a valid GP Chronic Condition Management Plan referral.

What happens at an initial neck pain appointment?+

Dr Kevin discusses your symptoms and goals, performs a relevant physical and neurological assessment, explains the findings and provides treatment at the same appointment when clinically appropriate and with your consent.
